The city of Nin is located 14 km northwest from Zadar and is one of the oldest cities on the Croatian coast. It’s a city of tempestuous history and extremely rich cultural and natural heritage. It was founded in the 9th century by the tribe of Liburni but it’s mostly famous as the city of kings since it was the capital town of Croatian counts and kings in the history. The old town core is located on an island connected with mainland by two stone bridges from the 16th century. Its 8km long sandy beaches are among the most beautiful ones on the Croatian coast, and near the Kraljičina beach (Queens beach) there is a locality with therapeutic mud that has been used in heath purposes for years now. Apart from the mentioned, Nin is also famous for its production of high quality sea salt so while there you can see the sea pools and the salt museum in the Nin salt pans.Salt can also be a good authentic souvenir. The area is also home for some rare plant and animal life if you are not satisfied with the cities rich landmark collection. If you are a sports fan and enjoy an active vacation the city offers long bicycling routes, and as a part of the hotel complex in the nearby Zaton you can find tennis courts, ping pong tables, mini golf and volleyball courts. Also, riding classes are organized and if you enjoy a good sea sport you will be pleased to hear that you can try diving, windsurfing or parasailing. Spend your evening hours by taking a stroll in the centre that is filled with many bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Among the most popular ones are restaurants and taverns Stara kužina, Kalalarga and Aenona. Do not miss on tasting the local delicacy ninski šokol, dry swine meat prepared on a specific way with specific spices.
Discotheques Venus in Nin and Saturnus in Zaton are our recommendations if you are in search for some night life, or you can go to the nearby city of Zadar where the offer of clubs is significantly larger. Also centre of the city is, during the summer, hosting concerts of klape, exhibitions and other performances so you will not be bored. As far as the accommodation goes you can choose between a hotel resort and private rooms and apartments and camps. Worth mentioning is that in the vicinity of Nin there are five national parks (Sjeverni Velebit , Paklenica , Krka , Plitvička jezera and Kornati) two nature parks (Vransko jezero and Telašćica), the island of Pag and towns Zadar and Biograd which are all ideal destinations for one day excursions.
